Fairytale Scene Paper Collage: A Fun Paper Craft for All Ages
Fairytales transport us to far away places and magical realms. They introduce us to a range of characters, good and bad, and have been used as cautionary tales for centuries. They invite us to step outside of the everyday, and delve deep into imagination. With this fun craft activity, you will take that one step further, creating your own version of your favourite fairytale scene using the art of collage.
Collage is a paper based craft, where your image is built up with different layers of paper, in this case, ripped coloured paper. We will use the ripped paper to add texture, depth and shapes to our collages.
What you'll need
- White card
- Coloured paper
- Glue
How to make them
1. Before you start your craft activity, have a think about what you want to put in your scene. We have made a fairytale castle on a hill on a sunny day, with a princess heading toward the castle. Use your books for inspiration.
2. Once you know what you are going to put in your collage, start with your background. Rip long strips of coloured paper to form the sky, grass, or any other background features.
3. Glue your background strips on to your white card, starting at the top. Make sure to overlap your strips and colours to create your background.
4. Once your background is ready, add your featured buildings, plants and people by ripping different shapes in different colours. Remember you can use multiple pieces of paper to create one object!
5. Once finished, display your art somewhere you can see it when you read your fairytales!
